Waddington 2005: Part 1 - The Static Displays

As witn nearly all major military displays, Waddington boasts a large static park. Paul Johnson/Flightline UK reports from the static park and the departures day. All Photography copyright of Author.

This year saw a much improved static park in terms of military participation with the return of the US Air Force in particular. A major highlight of course was the first appearance of the Romanian Air Force's MiG-21 LanceR-C fourship on their way to exercises at RAF Lossiemouth with 617sqn. They also brought an An-26 support aircraft. Another major highlight of the static park was the Hellenic Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon Block 52+. perhaps the first "squared-spined" F-16 to participate at a UK airshow. Of course, much of the static park was dominated by the RAF and stand out highlights included two specially marked Tornado GR4s, the last Waddington appearance for a Canberra PR9 and the first ever appearance by a Typhoon F2 from 17(R) sqn. As ever, there were a few civil participants with a celebration of all things Auster and a number of Classic Jets.
