|
Young thrill seekers are in for a real treat this summer as the
Royal International Air Tattoo cranks up the action at RAF Fairford, in
Gloucestershire. Awaiting them on July 15/16 will be one of the Air Tattoo’s most ambitious ground-based attractions ever
and what’s more – entry for under-16s is FREE! Called Tri@RIAT, the entertainment will offer a wide
variety of stimulating and exciting activities and demonstrations designed to
inspire young people to try something different. There will be the chance to compete on
the supercharged karting track, visit the battling
robots arena, sit in Formula One cars plus everyone will also have the
opportunity to become a Guinness World Record breaker. And with the focus firmly on ‘Speed’, international
stunt car driver Russ Swift will
demonstrate his gravity-defying manoeuvres whilst an amazing team of Army
cadets will construct a Jeep-like car in less than three minutes. There will
also be the chance to enjoy daredevil skateboarders and glimpse motor
racing’s future as the next generation of budding engineers put their Formula-style racing cars on display. Leading aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, EADS and Boeing have joined forces with RAF Recruiting, the RAF Sports Board, the Royal Aeronautical Society and the West of England Aerospace Forum to inspire the next generation of military pilots and aerospace engineers. Mike Green, the Air Tattoo’s Deputy Director Youth and RAF Projects said: “Try at RIAT will
bring together a wide range of exciting attractions that we hope will help open
young people’s eyes to new and exciting opportunities both in terms of careers
and leisure activities. When our young visitors look back at summer 2006, I am
sure their visit to the Air Tattoo will figure among the highlights.” |
