2008 was a classic year for static displays at RIAT with a number of debutants and special scheme aircraft. Paul Johnson/Flightline UK reports. All photography copyright of Author.
The build up to RIAT is always punctuated by the regular updates from RAFCTE of the various aircraft due to fly in to RAF Fairford in July. 2008 saw a particularly fine list of aircraft from around the world due to fly into Fairford. Perhaps the star of the line up was a UK debut appearance by a Pakistani Navy P-3C Orion. The aircraft that arrived at Fairford sported some very elaborate artwork on the tail of the aircraft and also "World's Youngest Orion" on the nose.
Also catching the eye were a number of speically marked aircraft such as the Royal Jordanian Air Force C-130H Hercules, French Navy Nord N262 Fregate, French Air Force Mirage F1, German Navy Sea King Mk41, Itailian Air Force AMX Centaur pair and the support C-160 Transall and C-130E Hercules for the Turkish Stars display team.
