One
event that seems to have crept
under our radar until now is the Henham
Park Wings and Wheels Rally
in Suffolk. Organised by the
Halesworth Lions, the event
combines a classic car rally
with a fly-in as well as a very
small air display. Paul Johnson/Flightline UK reports
from sunny suffolk. All

The
estate of Henham Park is the
ancestoral home of the Rous
family, though Henham Hall was
destroyed after a dispute over
inheritance and to avoid death
duties! Today the park earns
it's keep hosting three major
events, a steam rally, the "Latitude
Festival" and "The
Wings and Wheels Rally."
The 2009 event was bathed in
glorious spring sunshine and
saw over 60 aircraft fly in
ranging from the
vintage Cadet III Motorglider
to the Lazer competition
aerobatics aircraft. The picturesque
park land also hosted an number
of classic cars as well as a
large country fayre. The temporary
runway situated amongst the
trees of the park makes the
venue extremely photogenic and
a true hidden gem amongst the
display season!
After
lunch, there was a small relaxed
flying display featured two
of the UK's more famous civilian
acts. First to display was the
Swift Aerobatic Display
Team whose unusual mix
of power and glider aerobatics
made for a great sight in front
of the wooded parkland.
The
Tiger Club Turbulent Team made
the trek all the way from Headcorn
to bring their classic barnstorming
display of limbo flying, balloon
bursting and flour bombing to
close the display.
Thanks
to John Hill and the Henham
Park team for access of the
control tower during the displays.
