RNAS Yeovilton International Air Day - PREVIEW
 11th July 2009

What?

RNAS Yeovilton is at the heart of the Fleet Air Arm and is one of Europe's busiest military airfields. It is home to the Royal Navy's Commando Helicopters and Small Ships' Flights (Lynx) Squadrons. Many of these aircraft saw recent action in the Gulf. The Royal Navy Historic Flight also resides at RNAS Yeovilton and their aircraft such as the Swordfish and Sea Hawk. The Air Day has become famous for providing a highly varied and entertaining international flying display culminating in the traditional commando assault ultilising Yeovilton's based aircraft with pyrotechnics to demonstrate the potential of the Fleet Air Arm and the the rest of the Royal Navy. Elsewhere, there are field gun competitions, hanger exhibtions and a static display.

Aircraft Participation
(Last Updated: 01/07/2009)

The organisers of RNAS Yeovilton Air Day 2009 regret to announce that – due to operational demands and budgetary constraints - the Spanish Air Force aerobatic team, Patrulla Aguila, will no longer be participating in the show.  According to a representative from the Spanish Embassy, the team’s pilots were looking forward to displaying at RNAS Yeovilton, in what would have been their sole appearance in the UK this year.

The Spanish Navy’s Air Day participation involving two EAV-8B Harrier IIs is still set to go ahead, according to the latest official update.

Although Aguila’s loss is an unfortunate one, visitors to Air Day can still look forward to seeing three other world class international display teams in action, along with a number of modern jet fighters, the official Fly Navy 100 flypast, the spectacular Commando Assault and much, much more.  Discounted advance tickets can be purchased online and by calling 08445 781 781 until 4 July.  Participating Tourist Information Centres will sell advance tickets until 5pm 10 July.
