Royal International Air Tattoo 2010, RAF Fairford - 17th-18th July - Wednesday Arrivals

The first day of arrivals for RIAT 2010 was a very quiet affair with very few movements compared to previous years. The weather was not kind with grey drizzle present for much of the morning which did eventually clear by early afternoon. Things got underway early with the US Navy E-6 Mercury just ahead of a cutch of USAF aircraft.

First of the USAF aircraft to arrive was one of the MC-130s that are participating at this year's Tattoo. It was quickly followed by a KC-135R Stratotanker and a pair of B-52H Stratofortresses.
Other highlights included the Omani and Jordanian C-130H Hercules, a pair of Tornados from the Luftwaffe and a trio of JAS-39C/D Gripens from the Swedish Air Force. One of the latter also performed a practice display as the weather cleared as did one of the Pilatus PC-21s that will no doubt be busy over the next few days with customer demonstration flights.
But the star arrival was the EADS Messerschmitt Me109G4 which will form part of the Battle of Britain salute in the weekends flying displays. Hopefully, by the weekend the weather should improve for two days of good flying!
