DESPITE initial gloomy forecasts for Welshpool Air Show this summer, it was announced this week that the Red Arrows display aircraft will fly over at around 10.30am on Sunday morning, June 12.
It will be followed by a Spitfire early in the afternoon with more plans likely to be announced.
“It’s really late but better late than not having them at all. It’s the really thing and a nice attraction for Welshpool,” said Welshpool town clerk Mr Robert Robinson.
“It looked as though it was all dead and buried with no chance of RAF involvement this year but suddenly they have come back and said we can have a display in the morning.”
This will be in addition to the model aircraft weekend show going ahead on July 10 and 11 on the airshow site at Welshpool Airport which was expected to be all that could happen this year because of defence cuts.
