It was Honours for all those that made this year RAFA Shoreham Airshow the success it was . Records broken, and praise about it from all levels within the Aviation Industry, the media and the thousands of spectators that attended.
On the 13th November at The Annual Community Awards Event, held in the Dome Worthing, 18 awards in total were presented to very worthy winners from a hero that saved his children from a burning home to a 75 year old grandmother that had run 75 triathlons in 75 days.
The award for ‘The Best Community Event’ went to this year’s RAFA Shoreham Airshow (there were four finalists) and there to accept it on the organising team’s behalf was Colin Baker. “I in particular felt proud for Derek and Lesley Harber who have worked tirelessly for the show’s success. It was a pity that both could not be present due to Derek’s current health issues. If anyone deserved to receive it they did!”
“ It was nice to be presented with a beautiful etched heavy glass octagonal shield which will be transferred from my mantelpiece at home to the rightful recipient just as soon as I can,” said Colin. “ It turned out to be an evening to remember in the company of so many well deserving Sussex people!”
Derek said, “It was such a pity that Lesley and I could not be there. However; Colin was the ideal choice to receive this on The Airshow behalf. It is our Sponsors and Supporters that help make the show the success it is. Johnsons Press, the organisers of this event, have been a major part of our success over several years now, proving that working with the media can and does result in promoting this event to an even larger audience. Now we have 2015 to think about and I know our brilliant Display Director Rod Dean is already working on this!”
