One of the largest aircraft in the world will literally be a huge attraction at RNAS Yeovilton Air Day on 23 June 2012. For the first time in over two decades, an Antonov An-124 will appear in a UK flying display – a massive coup for this flagship Royal Navy event. Supplied by Ruslan International, this enormous cargo aircraft will divert from its normal duties especially for the show.

The An-124 first flew in 1982 and was certified for civilian cargo operations ten years later. Able to carry a staggering 120,000 kilograms of cargo into the air, it’s a multiple world record-setter and capable of accommodating a huge variety of payloads including fast jets and helicopters. Ruslan International was established in 2006 from the amalgamation of several different carriers. It employs no less than 17 An-124-100s – almost one-third of the type’s entire production run.

The An-124’s involvement gives Air Day’s 5+hr flying display a mixture of types that won’t be seen at any other UK airshow this year. Other major highlights include the RAF Red Arrows, the Royal Saudi Air Force Saudi Hawks, the unique Commando Assault, the Royal Navy Black Cats and a host of classic jet designs including the world’s only airworthy Gloster Meteor T7.

Throughout the day there will be plenty of entertainment on the ground for all the family including side shows, educational interactive displays, funfair, vintage, classic and military vehicles, service demonstrations, military bands, picnic areas, helicopter pleasure flights, simulator rides, trade stands and much, much more.
