Interesting. Southport originally started as a free event, then in 2001 began levying an entrance charge against pedestrians. Subsequent years have seen price increases to the current level of £7 per adult and £5 child on the gate. Interestingly, since the price charges have increased the attendance figure has remained the same. The show is still packed out. The Great British Public, contrary to the opinions of the local politicians, are prepared to pay for their entertainment - as long as they feel the return they're getting is worth it. And despite never going to the show, from everything I've seen about the event's flying display and its numerous on-ground attractions, I would suspect that Eastbourne's attendance figure will remain at broadly the same level it has been.

I am really surprised that no-one has commented on this - Lydd Airshow is fantastic entertainment over two days, with some spectacular aircraft and displays. People come from miles around to see it. The weather has always been kind to it, it's a wonderful, reasonably priced day out I am so disappointed that it is not to be staged this year as my friends and family look forward to it I find it astonishing that a backer could not be found, the gate money and stalls must make a huge amount. I assume that the Airshow is not staged to make a profit? Also, there is a marked absence of big name big money businesses in the local vicinity and would surmise that firms further afield would not be interested in backing a show that doesn't benefit them in some way.

I believe that this is the first time that the Red Arrows' colour scheme has changed since the team moved from the Gnat to the Hawk in 1980. I would assume that the new paint job doesn't affect the pilots' reference points for flying in formation, and I think it's a welcome change - promoting the RAF as well as the Red Arrows. For more information on the Red Arrows, take a look at The Red Arrows Website.
