    Gazelle Commemorative 50th Fly-in

Middle Wallop Airfield, Stockbridge, Hampshire, SO20 8DY

    http://www.armyflying.com/events/all-events/gazelle-commemorative-50th-fly-in/

Threshold.aero will be hosting a commemorative fly-in of Gazelle helicopters at AAC Middle Wallop, the Army&'s home of the Gazelle, on 8 April 2017, supported by the Museum of ArmyFlying and the Army Air Corps.

It is hoped that at least 50 Gazelle helicopters will be present at the event in order to markthe anniversary in style.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Museum of Army Flying.

The Aerospatiale Gazelle is a French five-seat helicopter, commonly used for light transport, scouting and light attack duties. It is powered by a single turbine engine and was the first helicopter to feature a fenestron tail instead of a conventional tail rotor.

It was designed by Sud Aviation, later Aérospatiale, and manufactured in France and theUnited Kingdom through a joint production agreement with Westland Aircraft. Further manufacturing under license was performed by SOKO in Yugoslavia and the Arab British Helicopter Company (ABHCO) in Egypt.

On 7 April 1967, Aerospatiale SA.340 F-WOFH made its first flight in the hands of famed test pilot Jean Boulet. Five decades later, the Aerospatiale Gazelle remains a valued asset to the armed forces of twenty nations worldwide.

The Gazelle 50th Anniversary Commemorative Fly-in will open to the public from 10am, with free parking available in the field to the west of the A343 opposite the Museum of Army Flying available from 9am.

Signage and traffic management will be in operation to ensure that visitors can park quickly and safely. Disabled parking will be in the Museum of Army Flying Car Park.

A number of aviation, craft and charity stands, as well as helicopters on static display, will be present in addition to the aircraft flying in.

Tickets are available from the Museum of Army Flying website and are priced at £15 – adults, £8 – children. A family ticket is available at £40, allowing admission of two adults and two children. Under 5s are free and all tickets include museum admission.

    Torbay Airshow

    Paignton, Torbay, Devon, TQ4 5BT

    http://www.torbayairshow.com

The immensely successful Torbay Airshow will return for a second year in 2017.

This free family event, run by Torbay Council, is set to return on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June.

Torbay’s Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “I am delighted that the Torbay Airshow will return next year. Over 100,000 people enjoyed this family event over weekend and it brought millions of pounds to the local economy.

“Much hard work went into making the inaugural event a great success and it was extremely well received by residents and visitors to the Bay. We have gathered detailed feedback and will ensure that this is used to make next year even better.

“I believe this is a great opportunity for Torbay to grow a high quality event that is known nationally and internationally.”

Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, Cllr Nicole Amil, said: “I was incredibly proud of what the Torbay Airshow achieved last year and I am so pleased that it will be returning next year. We can build on what, I believe, was one of the best events we have ever put on.”

“We have proved that our beautiful location, with a natural amphitheatre Bay and great facilities, lends itself perfectly to a large coastal airshow event and the feedback we have from residents and visitors also reflects this. I look forward to next year’s event which I am sure will also be a great success.”

CANCELLED - Great Yarmouth Air Show

    Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, NR30 3JF

    http://www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/air-show/

The Board of the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area (GYTABIA) has decided to postpone the Great Yarmouth Air Show due to take place in June 2017.

GYTABIA Chairman, Gareth Brown, said: “It is extremely disappointing that the air show cannot happen this year. This decision has been made due to significantly higher than anticipated additional costs of more than £130,000 associated with counter-terrorism measures and medical cover for the air show. As with any event of this scale and ambition, it is vital to take as much time as necessary to put the required measures in place to ensure the event will be safe, that it is a success and that the benefits for everyone are realised."

Mr Brown added: “Much has already been achieved; the GYTABIA Air Show Management Group has already invested many hundreds of hours into planning the event. None of this effort has been lost and we have developed strong relationships with local agencies and emergency services. We will now review our budgets so the Board can reassess the air show plans in light of these additional costs.”

Visitors to Great Yarmouth in 2017 still have a superb calendar of festivals and events to look forward to this year including the annual Maritime Festival, Wheels Festival, Out There Festival of International Circus and Street Arts plus firework displays in Hemsby, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea.

CANCELLED - RNAS Culdrose Air Day

RNAS Culdose, Helston, Cornwall, TR12 7RH

    http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/RNASCuldroseAirday

2017 promises to be a very important, and busy, year for Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose. 80% of the Air Station’s front line aircraft and personnel are already serving on operations or at very high readiness to deploy all around the world.

Delivering this high operational tempo, protecting Royal Navy ships and submarines above, on and below the waves, takes much training, planning and effort – but life at the Helston based Air Station is going to get even busier.
This year will see a new era of ‘Carrier Aviation’ when HMS Queen Elizabeth, the first of the Nation’s two new aircraft carriers, sails into Portsmouth. RNAS Culdrose has a vital part to play on board this new flagship, and personnel need to be ‘carrier ready’ for this significant event. Therefore due to this focus, and existing operational commitments, RNAS Culdrose will not hold an Air Day in 2017.
The Commanding Officer of Culdrose, Captain Dan Stembridge ADC said: “We have had to make the regrettable decision to not hold an Air Day this year in order to focus our resources on delivering our primary roles; to protect the Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, support Counter Terrorism and be ready to defend the Royal Navy’s Carrier Task Groups.”
“HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Nation’s new flagship, will sail into Portsmouth Harbour this year. The carriers are the most powerful ships ever built by the UK and will have a lifespan of 50 years. They will be capable of high intensity war-fighting and global counter terrorism, through to defence engagement, disaster relief and humanitarian aid. It is essential that RNAS Culdrose is fully prepared to support the aircraft carriers when they deploy with trained personnel and aircraft. Indeed one of my squadrons will provide the very first aircraft to land on her deck. This significant milestone will be a proud moment in history for Culdrose, Helston and the County of Cornwall.”
"This new focus comes as many of my personnel and aircraft are already deployed protecting the nation’s interests worldwide. Indeed 80% of my front line personnel are currently on operations or at very high readiness to deploy."
"Culdrose remains one of the largest single site employers in Cornwall and has a very bright future. Our unique relationship with the people of Cornwall is hugely important to us, and provides essential support to our families during periods of separation. The Air Day decision has involved much deliberation and we appreciate that many will be disappointed, however operations must come first. There is a lot of work to be done to deliver air power from our nation’s new carriers; and we must be ready.”
RNAS Culdrose Air Day is one of three military Air Shows still delivered in the UK, the others being held at RAF Cosford and our sister Air Station RNAS Yeovilton. Yeovilton Air Day will be held on the 8th July 2017. In future years, one possibility is to combine the Yeovilton and Culdrose Air Days to create one South West Fleet Air Arm event.

    Sidmouth Regatta Flying Display

    Sidmouth, Devon, EX10 8AT

    http://www.visitsidmouth.co.uk/sidmouth-events/red-arrows

Sidmouth Town Council is delighted to announce the return of the RAF aerobatic team, the Red Arrows to Sidmouth on 25 August 2017. The Town Council has also secured a first for Sidmouth, as it also plays host this year to a display by the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) consisting of Spitfire and Hurricane fighters and a Lancaster bomber.

Exact times are to be confirmed but the two displays will take place between 6 and 7pm on Friday 25 August 20017 as a prelude to Sidmouth Regatta that weekend. This is a date for diaries and not to be missed.

Flown by regular serving RAF Aircrew, the BBMF Flight operates six Spitfires, two Hurricane Mk 2Cs, a Lancaster as well as a C47 Dakota and two Chipmunk aircraft (primarily used for training). The three aircraft will perform a display together and individually before the nine jests of the ever popular Red Arrows arrive to thrill the crowds.

2016 saw huge crowds in the popular seaside town and thanks to the generous donations of the public, the return of the display team was secured for another year. The Chairman of Sidmouth Town Council, Jeff Turner commented: “I am delighted to welcome not just the Red Arrows but also the Battle of Britain Flight to display over what must be one the most perfect arenas in the country for an air display, our beautiful seafront.

The famous Red Arrows will once again be performing in  the town during the Sidmouth Regatta Weekend, 25th-27th August 2017.  The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, is one of the world's premier aerobatic display teams and will be enthralling the huge crowds who come to watch and take advantage of Sidmouth's natural amphitheatre that is the Esplanade and seafront.  Representing the speed, agility and precision of the RAF, the team is the public face of the Royal Airforce and Sidmouth is looking forward to welcoming them back.

The Red Arrows will display on 25th August 2017.  Display subject to weather conditions.

    RAF Scampton Airshow

    RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, LN1 2ST

    http://www.scamptonairshow.com

The Scampton Airshow will be a two-day event with organisers looking at the second weekend in September, 2017, as the likely date for the first show.

The announcement by airshow organisers was made during the annual Station Commander's Reception at RAF Scampton on Thursday, May 26.

In February, the RAF Charitable Trust announced it had reached an agreement in principle with the Royal Air Force to organise an airshow at the Lincolnshire airfield. Since then, work has been taking place behind-the-scenes to build the team who'll deliver the airshow.

Andy Armstrong, Chief Executive of the new organising company, said: "An immense amount of planning has already taken place to get us to the point however we need to start engaging with the many stakeholders whose support will be essential to delivering a successful Scampton Airshow. I am very grateful to Wing Commander Joanne Campbell for giving us the opportunity to attend her reception and meet some of the people we'll no doubt be working closely with over the coming months."

Mr Armstrong confirmed that the airshow would take place over two days, with September 9-10, 2017 the most likely dates. He said: "For the purposes of planning, we are looking at staging the airshow on the second weekend in September. We now have to go out to all those people and companies we'll be relying on to ensure we have everything in place to stage an exciting and safe airshow. Once this is done, we'll confirm the dates and hopefully have tickets on sale by the end of the year."

Wg Cdr Campbell said: "We are absolutely delighted that RAF Scampton has been chosen to host the Scampton Airshow here in Lincolnshire and we are working closely with the RAF Charitable Trust to help them deliver what promises to be a fantastic two-day event."
