The Royal
Navy Historic Flight fly some of the most exciting
warbirds and classic jets in the UK. Currently airworthy
on the flight are the Sea Fury FB11 and the Sea
Hawk FGA6, both products of the Hawker stable.
Sea
Fury FB11 VR930 was delivered to the Royal Navy
in 1948. She served in front line service with 801
and 801 NAS before being put up for disposal in
1961. In 'retirement' she spent several years at RAF Colerne,
and periods at RNAS Yeovilton and Boscombe Down, being used as a spares
source for the RNHF's original Sea Fury FB.11 TF956. With the loss of the latter
aircraft in 1989 the decision was taken to rebuild VR930 and she was duly
moved to British Aerospace's Brough works for restoration to flying standard,
eventually joining the RNHF in 1998 in pristine condition.
Sea
Hawk FGA6 WV908 is the world's only airworthy Sea
Hawk. She served with 807 and 898 NAS both at sea
and ashore. Having been "retired" to second
line duties and finally storage the aircraft was
first restored at RNAS Culdrose between 1977-1978
before joining the RNHF in 1982 at Yeovilton flying
breiflt in 1989 before being transferred to Dunsfold
for refurbishment. The aircraft reappeared in 1996
only to suffer a cracked jet pipe during that season.
She finally made it back to the circuit in 2004
to join the Sea Fury, making their debut together
at Yeovilton Air Day in that year
